Event Management BA (Hons)

Event management at Chichester is a new degree programme, which has been designed to provide you with the relevant skills and experience to work within one of the fastest growing and most dynamic sectors of the service economy. The programme has been designed in consultation with local event providers to ensure an appropriate balance between the academic context for events, and an appreciation of the applied logistical and operational elements of event management. A unique characteristic of the Event Management degree at Chichester is the emphasis on a ‘hands-on’ and applied approach to teaching and learning, via direct engagement with the processes and people relating to the event industry, culminating with students organising and running their own event. Delivered alongside the Tourism Management degree programme, the event management degree route draws on the skills and expertise of teaching staff from a range of disciplines, including business, sports and the arts. Staff on the degree programme are members of the Association of Event Management Educators.
Event Management Taster Day is on Wednesday, 14 April, 2010. For more information go to Taster Days

The programme takes advantage of the enviable opportunities presented by the scale, wealth and diversity of events in the local and regional area. High profile events locally include the Chichester Festivities, Arundel Festival, Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival, and the Bognor Regis International Birdman Competition. Local attractions such as the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, Fishbourne Roman Palace, Chichester Festival Theatre and Arundel Castle also run an extensive programme of events.
The emphasis on vocational experience and direct contact with real world situations and professionals is an integral part of the programme. The University has strong links to the local tourism and events industry, and specific elements of the teaching programme are delivered by event management professionals. Domestic and international fieldtrips will provide valuable opportunities to attend, analyse and recognise the significance of a variety of events. A parallel stewarding programme run in conjunction with local event providers will also provide students with an opportunity to gain first hand experience of event management. In the final year of the programme, students will be able to demonstrate their acquired knowledge and skills through the conceptual planning, design and implementation of their own event.
