Ed is a senior lecturer who teaches predominantly on the Adventure Education programme.  Having worked for several years in the adventure industry across the UK and Europe, Ed joined the University of Chichester to study on the BA (Hons) Adventure Education course where he subsequently gained a first class degree.

After returning to Chichester and spending two years as the technical support for Adventure Education Ed completed an MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology.

Ed has worked in variety of roles and with a wide range of clients from substance abusers in rehabilitation to Olympic athletes. Before taking up his position at Chichester, Ed worked with young people excluded from education in the south west where he setup and managed an outdoor education programme, aimed at reintegrating young people back into mainstream education. As well as teaching in higher education, Ed has also taught on BTEC and A level courses in further education including mainstream psychology, sport, PE and outdoor education.

Ed is a BCU aspirant level 5 coach and coach educator and holds various other adventure sport coaching qualifications. His experience and qualifications have led him to work as a consultant to the BCU (British Canoe Union), where he is involved with developing resources for coach education under the new UKCC (UK Coaching Certificate) guidelines.

Having a particular interest in applied techniques in sport psychology, Ed has worked as a consultant psychologist in various sports including surf kayaking, badminton and squash.

Ed’s research interests include individual differences cognitive functioning in motor skill acquisition and cognitive race strategies in performance athletes.

As an avid canoeist Ed has paddled across the UK, US, Europe and New Zealand!
